Ghost Ranch Reading

Ghost Ranch MPLA Leadership Institute | Resources

I spent October 29-November 3, 2006 in New Mexico with Cathy Newland, Mickey Coalwell and dozens of librarians from the Mountain Plains Library Association learning about leadership from Maureen Sullivan and Dr. Mary Bushing.  I still have my binder and add to it on occasion.

This week is one of those occasions – I have a couple of articles from books Heather bought for our NEKLS professional Collection.  A couple of HR and a chapter from “What They Don’t Teach You in Library School” by Elisabeth Doucett on “Managing Confrontation Productively.”

I also copied out the “Staffing” chapters from John A. Moorman’s book Running a Small Library: A How-to-do-it Manual and Catherine Hakala-Ausperk’s new self-paced book Be a Great Boss: One Year to Success.  Heather also shared a good introductory article by Hakala-Ausperk from American Libraries, called “Invest in Yourself.”  There’s also an excerpt from her book that happens to be from that Staffing chapter – hiring and firing discussed using weeding terms.
