Press release of sorts:

Please join us for NEKLS Tech Day 2010!
Friday, August 6th, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the
Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library
Cost for the program is $20 for NEKLS members; $40 for non-members. A
continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be served.

Keynote speaker: John Blyberg on “The Compassionate Library Experience”
This year’s program will feature a morning keynote presentation by
John Blyberg. He is the Assistant Director for Innovation and User
Experience at the Darien Library in Connecticut. He was formerly the
System Administrator and Lead Developer for the Ann Arbor District
Library (AADL) in Michigan. Prior to working in libraries, John was
the IT manager for the North American office of the British car
company, Lotus Engineering. He is an open source software advocate and
considers unfettered collaboration and participation the primary
intent of information technology. John was selected as a Library
Journal “Mover and Shaker” and speaks nationally and internationally
about libraries, user experience, innovation, and technology.

John’s presentation for NEKLS Tech Day is titled, “The Compassionate
Library Experience”: What we do has not changed, but how we do it
has. In an information-based economy, the role of an information
professional can be ambiguous, unnerving, and uncharted. To our
users, this new world can be completely overwhelming. But we can
design library experiences that provide the context our communities
need to continue to thrive and give our citizens the opportunity to
discover the intellectual riches that are theirs by right.

The afternoon will feature breakout sessions covering a variety of
timely library technology topics, including:
– E-readers
– Easy instructional design
– Building a digital branch
– Technology for kids
– Computer policies
– Flip cameras in the library
– 23 Things Kansas
– and more!

This event is a highlight of the NEKLS calendar year, providing an
opportunity for geeks to get geekier and for the rest of us to pick
their brains a bit and learn more.

Register today to reserve your seat at this popular event!

Thank you,
Brenda (Hough, our CE consultant/coordinator)
